Who publishes these worksheets
Estate & Inheritance Tax Calculator Editorial Team is the publisher identity for estatetaxtool.com. It is an independent educational publication, with no affiliation with the Internal Revenue Service, a state revenue department or a probate court. We do not attribute the work to invented accountants, attorneys or other credentialed authors. Government citations identify the authority for a calculation, not a government endorsement of this website.
The problem the site addresses
An executor can encounter several different taxes after a death. Federal estate tax concerns the estate and its lifetime gift history. State estate tax may use a much smaller exclusion, its own trust treatment and a separate property allocation. Beneficiary inheritance tax can depend on the recipient and the value that person receives. Estate income tax is another question altogether. The tools keep those distinctions visible by giving each taxing jurisdiction its own worksheet and each current no-tax state an explanation of its local rule.
What a calculation can establish
A worksheet applies a reviewed schedule to prepared input amounts. It can demonstrate the arithmetic of a credit phaseout, an allocation fraction or a beneficiary exemption. It does not determine ownership, appraise a closely held business, resolve domicile or establish that a trust election is valid. A calculated zero also does not establish that a filing is unnecessary. The District of Columbia, for example, uses a gross-estate filing test that remains separate from the deductible taxable-estate calculation.
How this publication is maintained
Every rate, exclusion and credit on a state page is taken from the enacted statute or the revenue department's own return instructions, and the page names that document beside the number together with the death dates it governs. A worksheet's answer for a sample estate is also worked out separately from the same schedule and the two must agree; the state pages print worked examples so you can redo the arithmetic yourself. AI-assisted tools help draft wording and spot repeated passages, but they are never the authority for a figure. The source index and methodology explain that process. Future indexed exclusions are not forecasts: when the agency has not published an amount, the form identifies precisely which official number the user must supply.
Reader participation
No registration is required and the calculator amounts stay in your browser. If a figure, source, explanation or interaction appears wrong, use the corrections form with the affected page and the specific issue. Avoid sending estate documents or beneficiary identifiers. The editorial policy describes how a report is evaluated. This channel accepts calculation corrections; it is not a service for obtaining individualized legal or tax advice.
