Educational use
This website provides estimates and explanations of published estate and inheritance tax calculations. It is an independent publication and is not a tax authority, law firm, accounting practice or paid filing service. Using a worksheet does not create an attorney-client, accountant-client or other professional relationship. Government source links identify the materials used in a model; they do not indicate that an agency approves this website or your entered facts.
Prepared amounts and legal decisions
You are responsible for preparing the inputs and deciding whether a model matches the estate under review. Gross estate ownership, allowable deductions, adjusted taxable gifts, domicile, situs, recipient classifications and elections can each require legal or valuation work. A scope confirmation is an acknowledgement of the model requirements, not an independent eligibility determination. Do not use a calculation to establish a property’s value, select a portability election or certify that an executor has completed all obligations.
Estimates and separate obligations
Displayed tax is calculated within the particular worksheet scope. Payments and overpayments are estimates, and interest, penalties, collection fees or special credits may be excluded as stated. State tax and federal tax are not always additive: the federal state death-tax deduction requires reconciliation. A zero current state death tax does not establish zero federal tax, no estate income tax, no probate duty or no liability in another property jurisdiction. Filing thresholds and payment deadlines require their own review.
Dates and unpublished parameters
Select the actual date of death rather than the filing or distribution date. Historical rules can continue to govern an estate long after a repeal. Future indexed values must come from the identified official death-year publication. Hypothetical values used in software tests do not represent announced future exclusions. Laws and forms can change after the visible verification date, so check the cited authority before relying on an estimate for a return or a financial decision.
Reporting issues and acceptable access
Please report a reproducible problem through the corrections form using an anonymized example and a public source where possible. Do not send confidential documents, attempt to inject scripts into reports, impersonate an agency or interfere with the site’s operation. We may update or withdraw an inaccurate explanation and adjust the calculation scope. Availability and individual results are not guaranteed. Keep your own source records and seek independent professional assistance for consequential decisions. The privacy page explains browser calculations, usage events and reports; the editorial policy explains our sourcing process.
