Oklahoma Estate and Inheritance Tax in 2026

No current Oklahoma estate or inheritance tax on a 2026 or 2027 death. Oklahoma's estate tax was repealed for deaths on or after January 1, 2010; old liens are a separate historical question.

Estimate federal estate tax after preparing the estate's valuations, deductions, gifts and valid additional exclusion. Historical liabilities, property in another jurisdiction and estate income require separate review.

The primary-source rule for Oklahoma

The Oklahoma Tax Commission identifies January 1, 2010 as the estate-tax repeal date. Its later rule review explains the wind-down of old assessment provisions. Pre-repeal liens and historical estate administration are different questions from tax on a current death.

The repeal date and the wind-down of old rules differ

Oklahoma's Tax Commission report explains both the 2010 repeal and the later review of obsolete estate-tax rules. The later report date is not the effective date of a new tax or exemption. An executor should start with the decedent's death year, then identify whether an old lien or assessment belongs to the pre-repeal period and whether any current enforcement question remains.

Do not assume every old lien remains enforceable forever merely because a wind-down report mentions liens. The report discusses historic assessment periods; determining the status of a particular claim requires its dates and records. This 2026 state profile provides no positive estate-tax calculation and does not purport to discharge an earlier claim or authorize a property transfer.

For the federal estimate, obtain completed valuations, allowed deductions and lifetime gift records. Oklahoma's repeal does not establish those figures or double an exclusion for a married decedent. If the estate also owns property in a taxing state, retain that state's location and ownership details separately. A prepared eligible state death-tax deduction can affect federal tax without becoming an Oklahoma tax.
